Annal 1 Issue 1
Welcome to the first issue of the Dogwood Heights Bulletin!
Our POA's primary responsibility is to keep the roads clear and operational. This includes financial transparency with the balance of our coffer and where it is spent. But we also have ideas on how we as a group can work together to help improve everyone's quality of life, of course without being imposing.
This website's purpose is to keep you informed about what is going on in our development. To share issues that comes up and how they were solved, including asking for your opinions and preferences in how we interact. It is expected to grow with us as we find new uses. Please give me feedback!
For example, we have obtained an internet domain name, this means we have our own website, email addresses, and any other online functionality we wish to have.*1
The president and his wife are planning on offering a corner of their property as an easy gathering spot with a butterfly garden where community members can relax, chat and share tea and coffee.
We are asking for input on anything you wish to share, ideas, suggestions and announcements.
Looking forward to hearing from you! : )
Steve Szmidt
President & editor.
P.S. A little note about myself. I am a people person and consider people valuable, further, I believe you are as valuable as you help others (of course they will need to want to help themselves). In any conflict I seek the best solution where everyone wins. I consider everyone's viewpoint equally and may rule against myself if that is the best solution for all. And, treat others the way you want to be treated.
A little warning is in order - I am very silly, and may interject inapplicable nonsense, in which case I suggest you simply ignore me. : )
*1 The domain is https://dogwoodheightsnc.com (this one)
It will primarily be a member-only site just for us.
My email: president@dogwoodheightsnc.com.
ROAD UPDATES
All the roads were recently graded ending on Aug 2nd.
Let us know how the roads fare.
Please realize due to costs we might not be able to jump immediately on every issue as they appear, depending on the severity of damage.
Obviously the roads need to be passable.
PROPERTY UPDATES
Our development has 51 lots. Out of those, 14 are undeveloped with three currently under development.
The three under development are on Red Fox Den Rd and the build is expected to complete mid next year as a single property.
One property just sold on 98 Harmony Hill and another one is for sale.
OTHER UPDATES
As you can see we are moving into the digital world with this website. If you feel like contributing articles, stories etc. please let me know!
One of the ideas we have, besides this newsletter, are to allow payments to the POA be made online (via this website). In addition, a forum can be created where we can share information, needs & wants. For example, we could place the Classified section in it, if someone needs something or is offering something, that can be a good place to let everyone else know. It could include a general chat, all according to your interest and needs. If someone sees a dangerous wild animal or smells a fire, it could be easily shared.
One thing that is important to me is that we remain secure both online and in-person. The content on this site will become hidden for those without the proper credentials. Right now all I'm doing is hiding this page with no link pointing to it. In other words if you simply go to the site https://dogwoodheightsnc.com you will see a mostly empty page. Ordinarily there would be a menu but that page does not have any, that means this page is obscured, which is poor and next to no security.
This might work temporarily but will require something like a login to keep others out. I will implement a solution that will still be secure but have the least barrier to overcome. I will reach out to each of you with your personal access keys.
Why am I trying so hard to hide our content?
A simple example; when I created the website I installed the web software without any configurations. That resulted in almost 500 attempted spam entries, which I simply deleted after I secured the site so no big deal. I had not announced it anywhere, nobody but me knew of its existence. But it serves as a good example of how easy it is to be found online.
This means we would be inundated with spam which in turn means people with no good intent on hacking us. In today's internet you cannot simply have interactions without security. Security is implemented by striking a balance between access or production, and secure and no production or access. Fully secure and it is not accessible to anyone. Fully accessible and anyone can cause damage to what you have. Therefore, we aim to strike a balance between the two.
It is my belief that we would be best served by having a Dogwood Heights only website where we can interact freely knowing it stays between our group. Maybe I'm just being silly and it would not matter who saw it etc. I think that to make the site as useful as possible each person would be more comfortable knowing it stays here and is not distributed worldwide. After all it is not intended to be relevant to those who don't have property here.
I'm happy for any and all feedback on this.
Classifieds - We should support each other when possible. Here you can let everyone know what you do.
If you need something you can also announce that here. We will adjust and expand as needed.
